'GSM' stands for Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, a red blend that, for me, is often tastier than the sum of its fruit. It's a combination that's growing in popularity, and this 2004 red from Australia's Barossa Valley is a perfect illustration why.
According to the LCBO web site, "the grapes are hand-picked from 100-year-old dry-farmed vines, then gently pressed and aged in old French oak..."
The result is a delicious red wine with flavours of dark berries, light earth and sweet spice. Moderate tannins make it easy to drink, and at $19.95 (in Ontario), it's easy to buy. Often.
