The Cotes-du-Rhones is the name of an appellation that is spread through a few pockets in the north and south of the Rhone valley. This wine is made of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault grapes, which are kind of like The Beatles of red French grapes.
Colour: Dark purply garnet
Aromas: Sour cherry, strawberry, cinnamon, licorice, not exactly jumping out of the glass
Flavours: Black pepper, black cherry, blackberry, cloves, cinnamon
Body: Light to medium body
Balance: Moderate acidity, moderate tannins, dry,
Finish: A short black cherry finish
Overall, not bad. I drank this wine with my wife for dinner on a cool September evening—the last day of summer—with chicken, green beans with garlic and shallots, lightly seared, and delicious BC spaghetti squash, my new favourite vegetable. We watched an episode of 30 Rock from season three, the last one with Jon Hamm. Jack tricked Tracy to return to the show by exploiting his dependence on Kenneth. Classic.
