Panty Dropper 2009 Rose by S. Rake

S. Rake is a friend of mine. He recently returned to Vancouver following three months as a Harvest Intern at a winery in Carneros, California. He made this rose, which is quite delicious. It has a big body for a rose, as well as nice acidity, flavours of sour cherry, petrol and grapefruit.

I would pay for it. Drink very cold.

Beaulieu Vineyard Coastal Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Some friends brought this over last night, Andrea and Peter. It went well with the cheese we downed, brie and a bland blue and another soft cheese covered in spices. We had homemade bread, which was insanely good: soft inside, slightly crispy on the edges. Wow it was good. I just made a sandwich with it for tonight's dinner.

This wine is a nice California cab. Not very complex, but nicely balanced. Low tannins, some acidity, nice vanilla and cherry, raspberry? Maybe. Good for drinking tonight.

Around $20 I think.

I'd buy this again.

Allison Ranch Red

Exactly what's in this wine is a mystery to me, but I'm about to watch Mad Men (season 3, episode 5), so I'm going to skip the research.

And anyway, the wine is totally drinkable. It's nicely balanced, fairly tart, with sour cherry, barnyard-ness, and plum. Not alot of tannin, but a nice cherry finish. Whatever's blended in there is fine by me.

Not sure of the price, it was a gift.
