Tantalus Riesling 2008

We had this in the basement for two years along with a few other of the same, plus a few pinots by Tantalus. Bought them all on a fun okanagan weekend with some friends. Mini golf was a highlight of that trip, as was the visits to a few wineries. Tantalus was memorable partly because the winery, this was in 2009 remember, was in a small portable building about the size of a portable. It was also memorable because he wine was great.

This Riesling is crisp and off dry, right At the edge, where I like it. Its diesely and minerally and tart. We opened it on Saturday, making Andean squash stew with quinoa. Having it tonight for leftovers.

The weathers been great lately. Sunny and cool. Great conditions for another road trip.

Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Jen and Dan brought this over for lasagna night. It's full of flavour, Californian through and through, exploding into your mouth with opinions of vanilla, cherry, other red berries and fruit. Pretty good acid, not much tannin. Good with food.

We're in flavour country.

Typing this on our new MacBook 15-incher.

Tinhorn Creek Cabernet Franc 2009

What a tasty wine. Enjoyed it last night with lasagna we made. Jen and Dan came over our thanks for looking after our cat so often.

The wine has that nice cab frankness that you expect in a cab franc. Lots of vanilla and dark chocolate and plum. I like light vanilla.

Dessert was apple pies. Perfect.

Pierrette et Marc Guillemot-Michel Quitaine 2008

What a great name! Unfortunately I'd never remember it if it was the last and only wine on Earth. Incidentally, if that was the case, I wouldn't be disappointed at all, because I love this wine. It's from Macon-Villages, Bourgogne.

It's got mineral, lime, butteryness, and something else... je ne sais quoi. But lovely. A crisp, long honey-lime finish. Perfect for this dark, rainy, post-yoga, thanksgiving leftovers, quiet kind of night.

Chateau de Gironville Cru Bourgeois 2007

One of my favourite wines. Perfectly balanced, nothing overpowering, like a great badminton opponent. Gentle acidity and tannins, blackberry, strawberry, light smoke, dark chocolate. It tastes better in my taller wine glasses. More restrained.

Listened to Shabazz Palaces, which I just bought (also bought Girls' Father, Son, Holy Ghost). A nice sunny Sunday. Went to Thierry Patisseries in downtown Vancouver, where I had a pretty excellent berry fruit tart. With raspberries.

Biked there.

In the afternoon we made this chili, which we ate while watching The West Wing, S2 E08. It was all very good.
